"Pregnancy & birth"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I had my first baby with cmp, Maddi was my assigned mid wife & was amazing. I saw her for most of my check ups I also had Ginny who was also lovely. I think leading up to the birth & having worked so closely w/ Maddi throughout the 5 months or so made my birth experience so positive, intimate, relaxed & fluid. I really felt that I could trust Maddi & feel like she showed up for me amazingly on the day. She knew me & my capabilities & I felt very empowered & supported by her.

Giving birth was the best day of my life. I really appreciated the after care aswell. Maddi was off so I had Sophie who I met previously aswell for 2 days & then Maddi visited the last day. It felt very personal although they were so professional but just having that familiarity with them both made the intimate & special first days @ home with our son feel not invasive. It felt poignant Maddi being the last to see us. She started & finished our journey & to be honest it felt sad when she left like we were being left on our own. We brought her flowers & I thanked her from the bottom of my heart for making the most special & scary time of my life feel possible & empowered.

I’m so so grateful there was a continuity of care & many of my friends wish they had this model as many of them just got a random midwife on the day throughout there pregnancy @ other hospitals. I worked with 4 midwives & every single one was professional, present & compassionate & interested (can’t say the same for the child health care nurse) but yes an amazing unit & model of care for such a vulnerable time & people. Please consider expanding this unit so that more women will have the opportunity to have the same beautiful thorough experience I had :)

Dear julyjh49,

Congratulations on the birth of your son and thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

I’m so happy to read that you received such a high standard of care and support from the Community Midwifery program (CMP) staff who guided you through your pregnancy and birthing journey. Out staff are committed to achieving our vision of excellence in healthcare for women, infants and their families, and I’m so glad you experienced this commitment from Maddi, Ginny, and Sophie during your care. I’m sure that Maddi and her team were delighted to receive your thanks and flowers.

Thank you for sharing your story and we will be sure to send your appreciative comments to all the staff involved.

Kind regards

Barbara
