"My son"

About: Child Health Services - WACHS South West

(as a parent/guardian),

My son used to say around 15 words. Out of nowhere he stopped saying most apart from mum/dad. We went to speech playgroup and it really helped me understand as a parent that I wasn’t actually helping him as I knew what he wanted, therefor gave everything to him. It helped me understand to give him opportunity to communicate. It made me feel better knowing I was with a small group of parents going through the same experience. Since the experience and knowledge I have gained, my son now says some new words.

Dear taurusmt33,

Thank for you taking the time to provide some feedback regarding your experiences with participating in the speech playgroup.

It is very rewarding to hear that the group was able to help you understand how to support your child, and that he is now using more words. It is great that the group could provide the support from other parents and you could share your experiences with each other.

It is very useful to hear feedback from parents as we can then ensure we are providing the services that make a difference for families. The speech pathology team have worked hard to develop the content for the group, listening to parent feedback about what works well and is beneficial.

We are lucky to have such dedicated and knowledgeable staff on our team. I will be sure to let them know how the group has assisted you with supporting your son.

All the best with your ongoing speech development journey with your child.

Yours sincerely,

Kirsten Bosich
