My child was injured recently, resulting in a broken clavicle. We were told by ED that they needed to be reviewed by Orthopaedics in the next couple of days because they weren't onsite that day, and the Dr would get them to contact us. We didn't hear anything from the Fracture Clinic. When I phoned a couple of days later I was told they hadn't had an Orth Registrar all week, they couldn't book anyone in because the Registrar has to triage. I phoned a few days after and was told the Registrar was in theatre all day but that my child was on the list to be triaged. I phoned about a week after my child’s injury and was again reassured they were on the waitlist. I had a message recently that my child is booked for review in nearly two week’s time.
We have no idea if my child’s broken bone is healing correctly, no further x-rays which should have been done to check, no review at all by Orthopaedics since. We are really worried that they could do further damage, that if it heals incorrectly they might have to be operated on, we have no idea how to manage this injury other than keep him still and have so many questions and no-one to ask. My child is off school as they are in pain if they move too much, can't carry their bag, etc, etc. My child’s medical cert ran out as the ED Dr did 7 days thinking it would be plenty.
Very unhappy with this apparent lack of care.
