"Lack of service"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus

(as a relative),

I called the Kalgoorlie Health Campus in the mid-morning to inquire what ward a family member  was on! The phone rang out. I waited a minute and called again, again it ran out. I then wondered whether the number may have changed or something. I googled the Kalgoorlie Health Campus number to check it was correct.

I called again after about five rings the clerk answered I said good morning just wondering if you can tell if **** is still an admitted patient in the hospital? The clerk said they would check and advised it seems the pateint is not, I said thanks so much and hung up.

I went around to the house of my family member to find they had not been home, I called their mobile as by this point I was a bit worried and my relative said I’m in hospital still, they advised me of the ward they were on and I went up to see they were ok.

I’m not sure how hard it is for a clerk to check who is in the hospital and who is not. I feel this could have made someone very anxious of not being able to find an unwell family member. I feel the service was very ordinary.

Dear pavozc44

Thank you for reaching out to tell us about this incident. I am sorry for the difficulty you experienced in reaching our admissions and communications officer initially and then the miscommunication that occurred. I have discussed your feedback with the Director of the Hospital and in turn your feedback has been shared with the manager responsible for our front line clerical officers. All staff in this area will be reminded of the importance each interaction our staff have with our consumers, and its impact on easing a sometimes quite stressful situation.

I hope your family member is feeling better soon.

If you would like to discuss the matter further please don’t hesitate to call 9080 5817 and speak with Alicia Michalanney, our A/Director of the Kalgoorlie Health Campus.

Kind regards

Karine Miller
