"Maternity, Postpartum support & Day Surgery"

About: Allied Health Broome Health Campus / Emergency Department Broome Health Campus / Maternity/Midwifery Broome Health Campus / Paediatrics Broome Health Campus / Theatre

(as the patient),

I moved to Broome, WA late last year and was around 30 weeks pregnant. I first met Midwife Sienna at the maternity ward and I found she was very welcoming, kind and informative. Thanks to her I was able to take online maternity classes and be welcomed into the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP).

My MGP midwives were Tegan and Lilly who are absolutely amazing. I can't thank them both enough for their support. I found they were incredibly nurturing and supportive. I felt my overall experience at Broome hospital was a very positive one.

The only con was being in the shared rooms after labour as I found it was hard to sleep and have any privacy. My baby was born early this year.

Thank you to the, in my opinion, fantastic maternity Doctors: Dr. Ruth, Dr. Steph, Dr. Lauren and Pediatric Doctors: Dr. Thomas and Dr. Pallas. Thank you to my, in my opinion, amazing anethisiogist (I’m so sorry I don’t remember his name but he was there for a 2 week stay at Broome Hospital early in the year). Thank you to my theatre nurse Bronte.

Thank you so much to the, I felt, amazing ward Midwives, especially Alex (plus a midwife who was maybe a student and would be with Alex sometimes -I’m sorry I don’t remember her name,) Robin, Megan and Sharon (who was a casual at the time if I am remembering her name correctly). I felt they were so incredibly kind and helpful! I honestly have so much love for the MGP and ward Midwives, they all felt like they cared for me like a mother would. I felt Lizzie in the ward was always a delight to see and her cheerful nature really helped in a way give me some relief from my recovery process. She was very generous with the food and kindly would offer my partner some which we really appreciated.

Postpartum I had a complication and had to go to emergency and eventually have a day surgery a couple of months later. Thank you to my kind emergency room nurses and Dr. David. Thank you lots to Dr. Ruth who did the day surgery and Huds (I'm sorry if I have his name wrong) who was my kind anethisiogist.

My baby also had a few feeding issues which was really hard for me emotionally and so thank you so much to MGP midwives Tegan and Lilly for their 2-3 week support PP and Pediatric Dr. Melanie, Speech Pathologist Joan, and Paediatric Dietitian Katie.

Thanks to Tegan, I was referred to WACHS Telehealth Lactation Service and had the amazing support of Lactation Consultant/Midwife/Nurse: Di, Joan, Katie, Di, Dr. Mel and my GP Dr. Lauren all communicated and worked together to give me, I felt, the absolute best care and I can't thank them enough.

I felt Joan, Katie and Di went above and beyond with their expertise for my family and I am forever grateful to them. My Child Health nurses referred to me from the Hospital are also amazing, thank you lots nurses: Katie, Cathy and Claire.

Overall thank you again to every single person I saw at Broome Hospital for their care. I don’t have any family in this country and they have made me feel loved and cared for during what I feel is such a sacred and vulnerable time in a woman’s life.

Hello deploymentxk66,

Thank you for the feedback you provided on Care Opinion. You certainly had a journey for the birth of your baby and I hope you are all now settled into a lovely routine and the enjoyment a new family brings.

Your feedback was absolutely wonderful and to have named so many is an absolute credit to the maternity unit as a whole. The care women receive from MGP, core staff and the maternity medical team is second to none. They all strive to provide woman/family centred care for each birth from pre-birth education through to postnatal support and education. Our theatre team are often required to work in extremely tight timeframes when emergencies arise and provide an exceptional service.

I absolutely agree that our shared rooms in maternity are very tight if there are two women and babies in the room. We are currently expanding out into the courtyard of our two double rooms to provide an area for our families to sit and have some space rather than in the bed all the time. Our refurbished birth suites have been a wonderful upgrade and new families and staff are really enjoying the change.

Thank you again for your lovely feedback

Kind regards,

Sally Clark
