"Lactation consultant"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I was struggling to get my baby to have a good latch which caused alot of pain during breastfeeding. This made me resort to using shields which in turn caused him to not want to feed without the shield (very frustrating). He was dropping a percentile line with weight which made me worry and I was close to giving up with breastfeeding. I was lucky to contact and receive assistance from lactation consultants (face to face and through telehealth) which has improved his latch. He can also feed without the shield for over 10 minutes which is a huge improvement from a baby who refused to feed without the shield only a couple weeks ago. I feel that the lactation service has helped me a lot through my breastfeeding journey and improved my experience as a first time mum.

Dear Chooky90,

Thankyou for taking the time to provide your feedback to Care Opinion, especially at what I am certain is a busy time for a first time Mum. I am sorry to hear that you faced some challenges with your breastfeeding journey, it can be a difficult skill for Mum's, and bubs, to get the hang of.

I am thrilled to read that you accessed both our face to face and telehealth lactation consultant services and we were able to assist you with breastfeeding and your experience as a whole as a new Mum.

These services are invaluable in providing support and breastfeeding education in that first 6 week period after birth and we are fortunate that we can reach women across the state with the telehealth service. Face to face services continue to grow in the South West region, and I am pleased that we have made a positive impact in your breastfeeding experience.

I wish you all the best for your ongoing parenting journey.
