"Basic nursing care for elderly"

About: Monash Medical Centre / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My parent had been in there for about a week, in that week they had not been showered their bed not changed or made, they cut their leg so there was blood all on sheet, the staff did not come with a bandage for two hours after being asked. My parent was supposed to be on drip for 24hours it was never put in and some of their medication had not been given. My wonderful sibling showered my parent one afternoon, being a nurse themselves for many years, they were horrified as to the treatment.

My poor parent is elderly, they were distressed and thought they were going to die they had so many tests the week before and the staff are still not sure what is going on with them. My parent is so happy to be home and being cared for why are these nurses seemingly sitting on computers instead of checking on patients face to face, I feel then they might of seen blood on bed realised my parent was not confident enough to shower on their own and all the bruising on my parent from needles and knocking themselves. Not good enough, in my opinion, we should go back to no computers and nurses getting to know their patients.

Also the beautiful handicapped patient across from my parent, my beautiful sibling helped their parent shower them too as I recall they had not been washed either and it seemed had forgotten their medication as well which I believe caused them to have a seizure. Based on my experience, if you’re not changing bed linen or washing patients, please fix this. Please have respect for our elderly, so disappointed in the system. Please have more interaction with the patients and less computers, they are not the patients. Terrible experience dealing with Monash hospital.
