"Geriatric doctors"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Outpatients Clinic

(as a carer),

Around 2 years ago, my partner was referred to the Geriatric Clinic at Bunbury Hospital and there we sat, so to speak, waiting for an appointment. A few months later, we were contacted to see a doctor and they suggested another appointment in 6 months time...Ha Ha.

Come a few days ago, we were to see a different doctor, that appointment was cancelled and so we wait again.

What are you doing about it? Why does it seem to me that the medico are bailing out of Bunbury Hospital and leaving people in limbo.

Dear ophiuchuskf44,

Thank you for highlighting a challenging issue for consumers requiring Geriatrician services in regional settings. I do appreciate that for consumers and carers invested in follow up support, that it is incredibly frustrating when clinics have to be cancelled due to medical specialist shortfalls. As a service, this is the last thing we want for patients seeking support to continue their treatment as an outpatient.

The Bunbury Hospital Geriatrician service has recently completed a recruitment process for additional Geriatricians. This recruitment will ensure that we have stable capacity to reliably deliver our inpatient and outpatient Geriatrician services.

I am sorry these shortfalls have impacted you and your partner. Please do get in touch with the outpatient clinic on 9724 0500 to ensure we can prioritise a Geriatrican consult with your partner soon.

Once again, I apologise for this inconvenience.

Yours sincerely,

John Brearley
