"Combined Surgery - Right mastectomy with immediate reconstructions at RPH."

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Breast Cancer Care & Support Royal Perth Hospital / General Surgery & Ward 6H Royal Perth Hospital / Operating Theatre & Recovery

(as the patient),

I was admitted for an elective Right skin sparing completion mastectomy, followed by immediate Right breast reconstruction with ipsilateral free DIEP flap surgery under the care of Plastic Surgeon Dr Bernard and Dr Robert a couple of months ago. The combined surgery was a success with revision to be conducted at a later date. To the Fellowships (Lisa, Nick and Cheng) thank you so much for the wonderful care you gave me and for all of your kindness and attention after my surgery.

Ward 6H Nurses (Jeannine, Emma, Madi, Nalini, Dorothy, Michelle, Nadia, Letitia and Amber) apologies if I missed anyone. I felt you all worked tirelessly on the ward (back-to-back shifts) and always with a smile. The level of care I saw not only for me but I feel for the other patients were at the highest standard. Thank you so much for all that you do.

I would personally like to thank Pei, my first around the clock Specialist Nurse. You constantly observed my DIEP flap for color, warmth and temperature and ensured that I had the upmost care during the first 24 hours. Thank you for taking good care of me and for being so caring. I believe you were one in a million.

Thanks to you all - I'm recovering well from home.

Dear falconck87

It was lovely to begin the week by reading of your recent experience at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) on Care Opinion.

Attending hospital for surgery can be very daunting and I always feel privileged to hear stories from patients about how RPH staff have positively impacted on their hospital and healthcare experience. The positive differences our staff make on the lives of patients and community through acts of kindness and demonstrated compassionate care, cannot be underestimated. I will be delighted to pass on your appreciation to the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery medical team and the nursing staff of ward 6H.

I feel very fortunate to work with such dedicated and exceptional staff and am reminded of this when I read stories like yours on Care Opinion. Thank you for taking the time to share your story.

It was also pleasing to read that you are home and recovering well and I wish you all the best in your future healthcare journey.

Kind regards,

Ben Noteboom
