"Maternal fetal medicine"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit

(as the patient),

My partner and I want to acknowledge the extremely attentive and accommodating service provided by the maternal fetal medicine department at KEMH.

I was recently referred to their service as I had received a result requiring further investigation. My local OB&GYN sent a referral to the service on my behalf. We were obviously left anxious wondering what this meant for our unborn child and pregnancy. KEMH MFM were quick to receive my referral and booked me in promptly. Due to my partner and I located rurally from KEMH the appointment time and date was difficult to attend. When we contacted KEMH MFM they were very attentive and understanding and adjusted our appointment.

On the day of the appointment again we were anxious and eager to have some answers. From the minute we arrived we cannot fault the service ! Firstly the lady at the counter was very kind and gave us directions on how to find the department we needed. I felt the receptionist at the MFM counter had wonderful customer service. The midwife (I am sorry I have forgotten your name- but had an English accent) was very warming, attentive and reassuring. She answered every question she could, she ensured we received all the correct paperwork for PATS and the appointment. Nothing was too much for her. we also had a slight delay (due to our doctor required else where- completely understanding) the midwife’s communication was faultless quickly informing us on every move.

Lastly the very knowledgeable and kind doctor professor Jan! Who quickly and kindly put two anxious parents mind at ease! She answered every question and talked us through our whole scan. We felt included and listened to with every decision. We both left the appointment saying “ I don’t think we will ever meet anyone in our lives again as smart as that woman”.

As a health care professional myself I know how hard we all work for patients and sometimes it often goes unnoticed and unrecognised! Which is why I wanted to take the time to write this compliment and provide feedback. Because in my experience, the service the MFM provide was faultless and did not go unnoticed or under appreciated.

Thanks again to all that helped and provided our care.

Dear phoenixkf53

Many thanks for taking the time to post your story about your recent experience with the Maternal Fetal Medicine department at King Edward Memorial Hospital.

We are very proud of our Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) team and the high standard of care they provide. When you require further investigations during pregnancy, it can be incredibly stressful, so it is wonderful hear that the team members were able to put your mind at ease and answer all of your questions. I am also glad they were able to adjust your appointment so it was more convenient for you to attend. It can be difficult for patients who don’t live locally, and I’m glad to hear that this didn’t add to your stress at what must have been an unsettling time.

We’ll be sure to pass on your thanks to Professor Jan and the team. It will mean a lot to them to hear the positive impact their care and compassion had on your experience.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience. I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Kind regards,

Barbara Lourey
