"My parent's care"

About: Broome Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My parent attended ED with a suspected fractured wrist. They had an x-ray and waited 4 hours to see a doctor. The doctor told my parent there was no fracture and was sent home with nothing - no analgesia or wrist support for the pain. No follow-up recommendations were made. We have since got the formal report from the x-ray which shows a fracture in the wrist. We have had no follow-up correspondence from the hospital to say there is a fracture or what to do about it. We still wouldn't know, unless we got the report from an external source.

Dear woodpigeonpt75,

I am sorry to read about your experience at Broome Emergency Department.

This experience is below the standard of care we aspire to provide in Broome Emergency Department.

My primary concern would be to urgently arrange appropriate follow up for your parent. I would welcome the chance to investigate how this has occurred and endeavour to prevent it happening again.

My name is David Woodward, and I am the Senior Medical Officer at Broome Hospital.

I can be contacted on 0419196947.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Dave Woodward
