My parent was brought in via emergency following a decline in their health. I felt the service provided by staff in the ED, particularly their nurse Lorna, was amazing. Having had a stay at another hospital recently, I felt the management of my parent's issues surpassed the care previously provided with the medical team running an entire series of tests & scans leaving no stone unturned. We felt very much informed & at ease, comfortable with my parent's care & our inclusion in their care plan.
This changed when my parent was taken to the ward, where they were at the time of writing this feedback. Upon arrival they were placed in their room but the staff failed to place their call button within reach in the event they needed help. When we arrived to the hospital my parent was clearly distressed & advised us that they had soiled themself.
A nursing aid came into the room & seemingly wasn’t able to answer any of our questions so I attended the information desk where when I relayed what had happened I was told by that staff member that staff were going to clean it. I advised that my parent had been in that position for way longer than necessary & that I believe it was a violation of their human rights to be left in that state & not cared for appropriately. Staff then attended to cleaning my parent & changing their bedding.
I felt the staff did not appear to be busy with a couple wondering around chatting & seemingly on their personal mobile phones.
I seriously hope that my parent's general care is improved upon as the care experienced via the ED had us feeling incredibly comfortable that they were in the right place. Based on our experience, the ward care has us thinking differently.
