Emergency Caesarian in another hospital transferred to Busselton in ambulance not even 12 hours later. I was really happy to go, pain was well managed and felt great, transfer was fine the driver was careful and so the bumps in the road weren’t too bad.
Arrived at Busselton around midday apparently the transfer had been arranged the night before. Greeted by a midwife in the corridor who told us we had to wait in the coffee station nook for our room to be cleaned. Whilst waiting they told us we were in luck as only us and one other patient for two midwife’s - still made us wait nearly an hour in my nighty, bleeding and uncomfortable - got in and our stay was good, like a hotel instead of hospital really, as I had to buzz for any regular pain relief when it failed to arrive over an hour after it was due.
Asked if I could have the same as what I had been having at the initial hospital, as I was really comfortable there, however was told no this is what we offer here, until the night shift midwife arrived on shift -she was great when I was uncomfortable and refused the prn medications they had written up for me - she rang the gp obs and got a phone order for me to match what I had at the other hospital so I finally got some comfort close to midnight. I think her name was Jill- really great midwife was very attentive with lots of heat packs and lovely overnight as I had terrible shoulder pain.
Great that my partner could stay, really I believe every hospital maternity service should support this !
