I previously had a caesarean for my 2nd birth and I was told I would need to have another so I elected for another caesarean for my 3rd birth.
I had healed really well from my previous c-section so figured the doctor would use my previous scar to cut through for my planned c-section.
Unfortunately that was not the case, the doctor had created a new incision which I believe was large than my previous one and a lot higher. I didn't know this at the time when I was in hospital as I couldn't see my incision due to my belly still being swollen from my pregnancy. Once a few days had passed and I was home I noticed how much higher it seemed the incision was and was unsure as to why this had happened.
When I finally called the hospital and spoke to my doctor, they advised me that they couldn’t see my previous scar as it had healed so well so they just made the incision where they usually would. I was not too happy with that answer as I was completely awake so I felt they could have spoken to me to ask permission or advise that they couldn't see it. There was no rush to get the baby out so we had the time or I wish that before going in to surgery they had come and checked my previous incision and we could have drawn the line.
Based on my experience, my advice for anyone going for a repeat c-section would be to make sure the doctor/surgeon knows where the incision was and that you are both on the same pages before going into the operation room. Im happy my baby made it out safely but im not at all happy with my incision as it's so much bigger and not at smooth as my previous one. I feel because it is high my recovery is taking longer than previously as well.
