Present to UCC with my son who had been unwell for a couple of days. Would usual see the GP but with health professional shortages I didn’t want to bother anyone given I didn’t feel it was ‘urgent’. I called the health service and explained the situation. I was reassured that he needed to be seen and to bring him to the UCC. The nurse in charge was incredibly warm and welcoming and got us settled in to the UCC whilst undertaking some obs. Then used My Emergency Doctor. The MED physician was extremely kind and listened to what had been happening. Bloods, swabs and other pathology was collected. For my son it was a day of ‘firsts’ the nurse took her time explaining to him everything she was doing. Swab was taken first. Then it was decided by the MED to cannulate him as she had a sneaking suspicion he may need some fluids. So instead of him having to have bloods taken and then be cannulated, they would cannulate to do both things. Again it was explained to my son what was going to happen. He was very brave. He required fluids and given the cannula was already in place, he could be connected immediately and treatment took place. As much as he was rather unwell it was a very positive experience and want to thank the nurse and MED services. We are fortunately to have such wonderful people on our community providing healthcare.
We could not have asked for any better care. Thank you.
