"ED trip"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had to take my baby to ED recently as I was concerned. The nurses were good.  However, to me, I felt the ED doctor did not take what I was saying seriously. They asked if this was my first child - it does not matter whether it is my first or 40th child. I felt it was actually irrelevant when it has nothing to do with my baby's symptoms. When we were discharged, my concerns were still not resolved. I am having to go to my GP as I do not trust what the dr is saying.

I was not going to do this care opinion as it seems to me the people who respond only defend the staff no matter what. I do not trust ED, and if I wasn't really concerned, I wouldn't have gone to ED. I certainly was not impressed. But nothing will come of this as other opinions show, I believe the executives just defend the hospital and hide behind paperwork, stating policy or procedures to excuse poor behaviour of staff.

Dear Nothappy123

Thank you for sharing your experience with us about your recent visit to Kalgoorlie Health Campus (KHC) Emergency Department (ED). I am very sorry you felt as though your concerns regarding your child’s symptoms were not addressed and that you will be following up with your GP because of this. Whilst it is good that you are continuing to follow up with your GP, I would also like to let you know about the Aishwarya’s CARE Call service in place at the KHC that supports patients and their families/carers to call for assistance if they feel that their or their loved one’s healthcare concerns are not being addressed appropriately. We encourage our consumers to raise any concerns with their treating doctor or ask to speak with another senior clinician, if they feel they are still not being heard or not receiving the level of care they need, patients and families can make an Aishwarya’s CARE Call by calling 1800 976 123 or using the fixed phone in the ED waiting room. Your call will be answered by a senior member of staff who will listen to your concerns and help you or your loved one.

It is very concerning when little ones are unwell, you did the right thing in presenting to the ED. Please do not avoid seeking the care in the ED if you feel that your child needs medical attention. As Care Opinion is a platform for consumers to share anonymously I am not able to look into your case at this time, if you would like us to review the care provided to your child on this occasion please make contact with Laura Dwyer our Acting Operations Manager of KHC via 9080 5817 or Laura.Dwyer@health.wa.gov.au. Laura will be able to facilitate a review.

Thank you again for sharing your experience, for this gives us information to help us continually improve our patient experiences. I hope your baby is recovering and getting back to their usual healthy, happy self.

Kind regards

Peter Tredinnick
