"Emergency room visit"

About: Albany Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I visited the emergency department very unwell due to severe vomiting gastroenteritis illness. I was becoming dehydrated and unable to stop vomiting. I had a family member come to support me as I was unable to drive and move around independently as I was weak and dizzy. It was very early in the morning, about just after midnight and I was able to be seen straight away as it was reasonably quiet.

The nurse on duty was a wonderful lady. Her bedside manner and rapport were beautiful and it made me so at ease while I was unwell. She reassured me and also made humorous conversation which I loved. She listened to everything I had to say and made sure I could have treatment. I was able to get some treatment which helped drastically and left a couple hours later. Her approach made a true difference to my recovery.

The doctor that attended my case was also thorough and polite, ensuring to check all of my symptoms and let me know what he was doing at different times.
I want to thank the staff very much for making my stay a positive one while I felt so unwell. I appreciate the excellent quality of care I received.

Dear julietpp57

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion. Emergency Departments are complex and busy environments so well done on arriving during a quieter spell.

We have shared your story with the ED team and our hospital and regional Executive teams.

We work hard to put our patients at ease and we do know that a little bit of humour, when used judiciously, is an important therapeutic tool.

We hope that you are now fully recovered.

Best wishes
