"Child health services metro and regional"

About: Armadale Hospital / Paediatric (Children's) Outpatient Clinic Child Health Services - WACHS South West

(as a parent/guardian),

I have had my child on the wait lists to see the public paediatrician in perth for 3 years and had being going through the motions to get assistance and a diagnosis. We finally got to see the paediatrician via a video call at the beginning of the year.

(We had been putting off moving as I was aware that it may impact the wait times but it got to the point where we had to move mid last year)

When we had the appointment the connection for the paediatrician was not great on their end so they said they weren't confident in making any observations based on this. They said that as a result we would need an in person appointment (which I was more then happy to do), but as I had moved they would need to see if that was ok with management otherwise I would have to be transfered to regional.

I never heard anything back until I received a call from the regional provider asking for more information as we had been transferred. I have been informed that we now have to wait another 18months to see a peads again when we had already started and just got put back in a different line. Where I am now being advised that I should go private but it would also that 12+ months.

Dear augustef99,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience with accessing a developmental paediatrician service for your child.

The Southwest Child Development Service does have a process to receive a transfer from metropolitan services which includes recognising the period of time the child has been on the original waitlist. It is disappointing to hear that this did not occur for your child.

We would really appreciate your time to discuss the details around your child’s developmental paediatrician waitlist transfer from the metropolitan service to the Southwest region. We are always looking for opportunities to make improvements to our processes.

Therefore we encourage you to contact Kirsten Bosich who manages the Child Development Service in the Southwest on mobile: 0419 942 961 or Kirsten.bosich@health.wa.gov.au to discuss this matter with you.

Regards,

Sharlene Abbott

Dear augustef99,

Please accept my sincere apologies for the lack of clear communication which followed a long-awaited telehealth appointment at Armadale Kalamunda Group (AKG). I understand how stressful it can be when trying to seek answers for your child’s health and I apologise for any additional distress which was caused.

Whilst it is difficult to comment further without knowing the particulars of the matter, if we advised that we would follow up with you in relation to a face-to-face appointment occurring at AKG or if a referral was required to WACHS then this certainly should have taken place. I regret the frustration and inconvenience caused by this delay and for your disappointment with the service provided on this occasion.

I am pleased to read that WACHS have provided you with steps which will assist you in gaining an appointment for your child with their service.

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion, and I wish you and your child all the best in health.

Kind regards,

Danielle Kilmurray

It was helpful to discuss your situation and identify where our communication with you had not been clear.
