"About my experience during my birth"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I gave birth through caesarean in Bunbury Regional Hospital WA. I arrived in the morning coz I start labour pain, I was scheduled for caesarean the following day but the baby was coming early so they did my caesarean the day before. All the doctors and midwives who assisted me during my labour pain until the baby came out, they were all nice.

Until my 2nd day, my baby was vomiting and I was worried coz they can’t breathe so I pressed the buzzer for assistance, 15mins later that midwife who is supposed to look after me came through. When that midwife arrived, I recall they asked me what happened? So I said in a nice way, can you please put my baby next to me so I can look after them coz they were vomiting a lot. I recall the midwife then asked me, it’s your 3rd day right? I thought it was my 3rd day so I said yes but it was supposed to be my 2nd day. Then the midwife answered me you should get up and pick your baby up and take them there, the midwife was pointing to the basin, and wipe your baby over there. I found the way the midwife talked was in a nasty and sharp way. So I said I am still dizzy coz I lost 2 litres of blood after my caesarean plus they removed my 2 fallopian tube, the midwife then said but they transfused another blood right? I said yeah but am still dizzy coz my hemoglobin and iron still low I don’t want to take risk to the life of my child coz I know am not that strong yet.

I felt the midwife was very rude. I believe that people who are in pain don’t need to be treated that way. I feel the midwife was racist, why? Because it seemed to me they were very nice with their Australian patients, but because I am of ethnic origin, I felt they were very very rude to me. The hospital is nice but I believe the name of the hospital will be damaged because of the attitude of some workers who seemingly don’t know how to treat people with respect.

My partner spoke to a senior staff member. They complained about that midwife coz I called my partner and asked them to pick me up straight away. I don’t want to stay at that hospital anymore so my partner was asking why? So I told them everything. That’s why my spouse contacted the Bunbury Regional Hospital then a senior staff member came and talked to me, and they swapped that midwife to another midwife. She was very helpful and friendly. I really appreciated her, she was the one who took over that other midwife who I found rude.

I believe patients don’t deserve to be treated in a very rude and seemingly racist way. I was very nice to that midwife and I am very polite to anyone. I was in so much pain I couldn’t even talk properly coz I am dizzy light headed, if I stood I felt like I was walking in the air, that’s why I was scared to carry my newborn baby. And that’s why I asked assistance to the midwife to look after me and then they treated me that way? I felt that’s not nice, I still have trauma during my operation coz when they removed my 2 fallopian tube I could still feel the pain and I keep saying it’s painful please stop it’s painful the doctors didn’t hear me straight away until I recall 1 midwife says the patient says it’s painful, that’s the time they stop and put me on sleep. Plus I was bleeding, plus that midwife treated me in a very rude and, I believe, racist way. I felt the trauma was building up, I feel unsafe to go to the hospital anymore because I am worried if they gonna treat me that way again 😔😢 I didn’t go back to Bunbury Hospital to do my baby’s hearing test, I went to another hospital for my baby’s hearing test.
