My school aged daughter was ill with a winter cold (not COVID) for three days, but started to get better, and so we pushed on with a family holiday we had planned a year in advance from Perth to Pemberton in the forests of south west Western Australia.
However, on the 4 hour drive, I started to get unwell, and upon arrival at our farm stay accommodation, both myself and my daughter went to bed and didn't leave the property for a few days. With high temperatures and fever symptoms, we sought the local GP surgery; however they were closed and not taking patients, and directed us to the Pemberton hospital.
We arrived and were seen to within 30 seconds by the lovely Nurse Jo. Ove the following few hours, she took vitals and administered correct doses of paracetamol and neurophen to my daughter (who had been vomiting then taking medicines), arranged several telehealth consults back to doctors in Perth. We where in the ED about 5 hours, during which time it was quiet with only 2 other patients. Jo kept spirits high, was reassuring, calming, and engaging and lovely with our daughter, buoying her spirits and keeping her focused on taking the medication.
