"Patient and mental health experience"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I was admitted following mental health treatment by my GP and arrived in a very traumatic state. The initial triaging nurse was beautiful and brought me down to earth. The doctor who followed was also very compassionate. Once onto a bed a team of nurses flocked around me and did some bloods, everything fine.

After this I was then told to wait at the very end of the corridor with the patients in custody and police officers in a very vulnerable and mentally ill state. I was placed into this freezing cold room with a CNC and not even given a cup of water. We sat there for hours without so much a "hello" or "do you need anything". Hours passed and a nurse finally came in with an IV but failed to introduce themselves or inform me of its purpose. This was an awful experience for me and made me feel as if the nurses there didn't care! I felt there was no continuity of care or discharge information and any compassion whatsoever. Based on my experience, Id be steering clear of ED in future and going elsewhere.
