"Lens lodged in eye"

About: Atherton Hospital

(as the patient),

I've visited the E.D department of Atherton Hospital a number of times. In my experience, there are always lengthy waits going on 3 plus hours. Recently, was by far my worst experience yet.

Arrived in the morning after removing a contact lens and realising it had torn in my eye and the other half was still lodged somewhere behind the ball. I was first seen by a triage nurse and awaited to be seen by a Doctor. Approximately 30 minutes later, I was seen and had an eye examination only to be told there was nothing to be found and to wait another hour for a senior doctor to re inspect. The hour came around and still no sign of a doctor. Another hour hit and at last I was seen only to be told by the Senior Doctor there is nothing that could be done even before an inspection took place! I insisted they inspect anyways. After inspection and countless drops in my eye I was informed there was nothing to be found and to visit an optometrist.

I proceeded to do so. Immediately upon inspection (and may I add with the same machine I believe the hospital used) the lodged lens was removed from my eye within 15 minutes.

My concern is. I wonder how many other people have been potentially turned away with similar issues. This is a serious concern for me. I believe people can go blind all because a doctor seemingly turns a patient away because they couldn't see anything.
