About: Margaret River Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I presented at Margaret River Hospital ED with Flu Symptoms.

Due nature of the illness I was directed to the south side of the hospital in the ambulance parking bay. This area is covered, but has no walls, thus I believe eliminating the potential to infect other patients.

It was night, windy, raining and cold. I only had to wait about 15 minutes and I felt I received excellent care and advice.

I felt it was however not pleasant to wait out in the cold feeling unwell......I would like to see the hospital get an isolation area for patients such as myself that at least gave basic protection from the elements and did not rely on sick patients waiting outside at night whilst feeling unwell.

Thank you for sharing your experience on Care Opinion.

I am so sorry that you had to wait outside in the cold feeling unwell. Unfortunately, our emergency department has only 2 isolation bays and they are often full.

We try to minimise the time spent outside for our patients but also have a duty of care for our staff and patients protecting them from respiratory illnesses.

It is great that you received excellent care and advice and I hope you are recovering well.
