Recently, our young toddler became very sick with flu like symptoms. He had already had a number of flus etc in his time but this one made him struggle to breath with his entire torso and throat all moving to try and get the air in accompanied by cackling and a wheeze.
I took him to the ED at Carnarvon Hospital mid morning and whilst he was kept in for a few hours the call was made to take him home to rest better. Unfortunately his condition deteriorated further and i had to take him back later that night. Fortunately Nurse Kim and Doctor Paul were on duty at this time. Their sense of urgency, professionalism and thoroughness helped relieve what was a very concerned father at this point, never having seen his son this unwell and struggling to breath. They provided a number of treatments and aired on the side of if unsure lets investigate further not wait and see, which as the father was very reassuring as opposed to earlier in the day where a more hands off approach was taken. This meant after a couple of hours our son had improved to a state that we were transferred to the ward for ongoing observations.
A big thank you to all of the team who were on that night, in particular Nurse Kim and Dr Paul whose experience and competence in their roles was clear to see and was so reassuring at a very stressful time,
