"Lack of elderly care"

About: Stretton Park Residential Care

(as a relative),

Seemingly no care given, complaint wasn't followed up after 8 months, still no care plans in place, staff stating they have no knowledge of how to look after my relative.

I have requested multiple times with the staff and also the director for a care plan and meeting to discuss this. No facility manager on site or clinic care manager and I have visited the facility and I recall there being no RN on duty.

My relative had a fall, has prn endone for pain but none on site for them to use. It took 6 days to get my relative’s Endone to be arranged. I believe the staff were not escalating the family’s request to send my relative to hospital after wound found oozing green substance. I recall the staff told family to wait till the following week to see doctor, family insisted for staff to ring ambulance, this was not on option stated by RN. After further discussion, I advised the nurse I would ring myself after backwards and forwards in a conference call with an out of hrs doctor who wanted antibiotics, swab and biopsy taken. Stretton Park RN advised they will get onto it the following week. Family disagreed strongly, nurse advised no swabs on site, they will look into getting some?

Family advised they will go and collect from hospital and return to be done asap. Antibiotics will come next week. Family again insisted urgency and will collect in morning. Nurse rang and advised to collect from hospital ED in morning. Family were left with no information as to obtaining antibiotics as the hospital refused to dispense antibiotics and so did chemist warehouse as it was written on med chart not on script. Family were left to ring and source through out of hrs doctor’s number from night before. This took around 4 hours. Family has asked for second opinion Re doctor as they did not attend when booked, has cancelled medication without meeting the patient or has any information. The director of Aged Care advised family there is nothing they can do, they do not have access to any other medical services because of location. Family are getting the run around and feel that no information is passed on to staff, no one to speak to in regards to complaints.

Basically, I feel no duty of care has been given, staff seemingly blame staff stating no information is given on handover. Staff stating they do not know if my relative can walk even. In my opinion, no Aged care standards are being upheld or the charters of rights.

Family is very unimpressed with what I believe is the lack of basic care given. Pca’s are lovely but I recall I was advised that they are working blind with no management on site to assist with this. There is so much more family can say, please contact me if you would like to speak to me in person.
