"Endometriosis laparoscopy post op care disregarded"

About: Specialists in the Forrest Electoral District

(as the patient),

I had a laparoscopy for a diagnosis/treatment of endometriosis recently with a specialist gynaecologist and the registrar. During the procedure they removed a couple of lumps to be sent off for testing, however, when I was in recovery the gynaecologist told me it was most likely endometriosis from the look of it.

I then had my post op review around a month later with the registrar at the specialist clinic. At this appointment I was told there is nothing wrong with me, as the results had come back negative for endometriosis and the outcome was that it was “normal tissue” and there is no reason for my pain. Furthermore, I felt I was spoken to rudely, with a lack of care and understanding. I was also provided with no further care plan or advice, I recall I was simply told that a heat pack is good for pain therefore leaving me to feel like I had just wasted everyone’s time. Following this appointment I drove my 40 minute drive home in tears as I felt confused and awful because I had no further understanding of the debilitating pain I live with.

I have had to seek further, private treatment after conducting my own research, as I wasn’t provided any information or clarification from health care professionals about the pain or condition that is clearly present. I am a nursing student, therefore, I have an understanding of health standards of practice, I believe if they were all met, a patient would not feel rejected, care plans would not be brushed off and I would not have been told that there is nothing wrong with me. I would expect further investigation into the debilitating condition.
