A family member of mine was recently a patient at the medical ward in Rockingham Hospital.
Thankfully they are now home and recovering well.
I would like to say a huge Thankyou to all the amazing nurses on the ward- these ladies and gentlemen are like angels! They all work so incredibly hard and are able to maintain empathy, humour and patience under enormous pressure. That is a busy busy ward and appears to be constantly full to the very brim.
There were some confused patients there at the time and the attentiveness of the carers working directly with them (shadowing them?) and the nursing staff who would say hello and check in on them when they passed them in the hallway was beautiful to observe.
I also overheard how other patients and their family's spoke to the nursing staff (and about them when they were not present) and I was disgusted and appalled.
Dr Nimal and team were wonderful. Dr Nimal (the consultant? Team leader?) was thorough and detailed with his explanations. Five stars!
There was an enrolled nurse we met Cei/Cie? She was working light duties due to an injury? Her communication and ability to untangle the complicated jargon to help us understand the plan and what was happening was so incredibly appreciated. She told us there was no such thing as a silly question and made us feel that she truely meant that. She listened, asked questions and championed for us. And I observed that her communication and zest for support was consistent with all patients, families, other nurses and the doctors was consistently positive and upbeat. I feel she needs to be in a designated communication role!
There was also a lovely young male nurse- Dan, he was a calming light when my family member was very afraid. What an incredible person he is.
I would also like to special mention Ricky-lee- thoughtful and attentive even though it was obvious she was very busy she never made my family member feel rushed.
You have an incredible team of nurses on that ward and they deserve so much more recognition than making this post could ever achieve.
Thankyou medical ward! x
