"Mental health care"

About: Fremantle Hospital and Health Service / Mental Health Unit

(as the patient),

I am so sick and tired of what I feel is the terrible treatment at Alma Street Mental Health. The receptionist seemingly slammed the phone down and hung up in my face when I asked them to send through scripts that are urgent.

In my opinion, the facility is so outdated, the aircon wasn’t working when I went in there, there were dirty cups in the drink fountain and I felt it looked as if the facility hadn't been cleaned for a while. I felt the seats were filthy and the offices were so small and crammed.

I feel the quality of service I have received from staff and psychiatrists I have seen has been beyond appalling.

The way I was left to feel is embarrassing in my opinion. I recall they refused to let me have a telephone appointment as I have injured my ankle (fractured ankle) and felt I needed to stay at home. In my experience, the reception staff do not pass on messages or communicate with one another.

They are now discharging me ahead of major surgery they are telling me to toughen up when I am under immense stress. They did not call me back when I was going through an emergency and in my experience, triage don’t return your call after hours when you are having major trouble - resulting in me having to call lifeline multiple times because it seems triage will not call me back.

In my opinion, all staff I have seen are ignorant and incompetent! I am sick of this place for the year and a half I have been with them I feel I have experienced shocking treatment. Based on my experience, I vow never to go to this place ever again.  In my opinion, disgraceful!

Dear babydollxxo,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I am very sorry to read that you have not felt respected or heard during your treatment over the past year and a half.

The mental health team at Alma St aim to provide a high standard of excellent care and always use feedback to improve on areas consumers are dissatisfied with.

Please be assured that we will endeavour to make improvements in all of the areas you have referenced in your post including the communication issues you experienced and those you noted between team members.

I encourage you to seek advice or a referral from your GP should you require services from Alma Street Mental Health in the future.

The Mental Health Emergency Response Line (1300 555 788 – Perth or 1800 676 822 – Peel region) is also available for you to call in times of crisis.

Thank you for reaching out and providing your feedback.

Kind regard,

Neil Doverty
