"Amazing help by wonderful, caring staff"

I had an infected midge bite which caused swelling and red colouration to most of my lower leg. My husband and I were trying to manage strapping my leg which was constantly weeping.

The staff I saw at Kununurra Hospital Emergency Department were wonderful. Dr Donna immediately did blood tests then ordered a full leg scan to check for blood clots. I was given IV antibiotics plus oral antibiotics to stop the infection.

Nurse Nicola showed my husband how to expertly dress and wrap my leg. She provided enough cleaning products, medication, absorbent pads and bandaging to enable us to get back to South Australia. She gave me her work mobile number, so that when my husband changed all the dressing twice a week, I could send a photo to her and she would then text back to give feedback on the condition of my leg. We felt the this was well above our expectations and we valued their professionalism.

Considering this was the ED and they were understandably extremely busy, I feel they went above the call of duty to see me and to give us professional assistance. The doctor even came out to the waiting room to check on me as I was having IV antibiotics there because there was no room in ED for this service. We are deeply indebted to the team and the assistance they provided.
