"Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Team"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / DB3 - Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU)

(as a carer),

My parent went in for a stent procedure late 2022. It was meant to be an straight forward procedure that required an overnight stay at the hospital, but unfortunately, they ended up in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit for a month. I (actually, the whole family) was completely shocked by the incident and we can't praise the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Team enough. The staff we saw were understanding, caring and patient with all our queries, and was so supportive of my parent's medical conditions.

Unfortunately, there is little I can say about the operating doctor as, to this day, I have not met them. I would have expected a doctor, who had, as I understand it, caused the incident/complication, to meet with the family to explain what had happened, but, the job was seemingly left to the ICU doctors to support the family.

I asked to see the operating doctor many times and the nurses paged them many times, but to no avail. We took turns to be at the hospital almost around the clock but still no visits. I feel it is very poor service from the operating doctor.
