"Drs Appointment - Gynaecologist"

About: Derby Hospital

(as the patient),

I was referred to the Gynaecologist recently in the morning. I waited about 15mins before being told we will need to postpone the appointment to a few days later. When i arrived to the hospital on the second date given, i waited around for about 5mins then i got told that the Gynaecologist has been called to an emergency (Fair call) & that they will be in touch to book me in again. I received a phone call a few days later to rebook my appointment for the next day in the morning. I arrived to my Appointment 5mins later, went up to the front desk to inform them I was here & they told me to wait in the waiting room & they would let the Dr know. 

20mins later & I was still waiting - keeping in mind I am attending my appointment in work hours thinking I would be out of there within half an hour!

Last year I attended an appointment with this Dr & I recall they sat on a teams meeting throughout my appointment & seemingly all they could do was tell me to lose weight, get bloods done & ill see you in 6 months. That was the second time I had seen this Dr & got absolutely nothing out of it. Being the age I am & relying on this Dr to examine me to find out why I am having issues trying to fall pregnant and all they turns around with is lose weight & get bloods done.

20 minutes after the booked appointment time I gave up waiting & went to let the staff know at the reception desk that I will be leaving & will postpone my appt. The Dr Gynaecologist came out as I approached the desk & I recall said to come through. I said no i have waited 20mins for this appointment I will be postponing it. It seemed they wanted me to go to my appointment but I said No I am going to postpone and it definitely wont be with them.

I will refuse to this Gynaecologist Dr & I think that when they come to Derby Hospital that they need to put their 100% into their patients !

I feel something needs to be said / done as in my opinion this is absolutely ridiculous !

Dear frosttz66,

I am sorry to hear of the cancellations and delays regarding your gynaecological appointments. This must be frustrating, in particular with your work requirements.

We are very fortunate in the Kimberly that we have a number of specialist obstetricians and gynaecologists that live locally. This can result in patients being able to be seen much sooner than waiting for a visiting service. The counter problem is that they are also on call for high-risk obstetrics, and this can sometimes mean they need to quickly attend unexpected emergencies. This can then result in clinic delays. With outpatient appointments, while we always try to run on time, we can fall behind if a procedure is difficult or we need to spend longer than expected with a patient explaining a new diagnosis or problem. This can result in us sometimes running late, but hopefully ensures each patients gets the adequate time they need. I am sorry this unfortunately sounds like it happened to you twice.
