After surviving a serious Bowel Cancer event I found I also had Multiply Myeloma. It didn't help to be told I would have to travel from my local area to Kerang each week for treatment. I live very close to my local hospital.
My first trip to Kerang was filled with apprehension. What a wonderful surprise and relief it was to walk into what I felt was such a beautiful place, so well designed, I was feeling better already.
The joy kept coming, I fronted the reception desk to ask where I would find Oncology, I am a fit capable older person, but the receptionist did not hesitate she came straight out from behind her desk to escort me right to the door of Oncology and waited until a nurse took charge.
Oncology, unlike many facilities I have been in, I felt was modern and welcoming. The greatest delight were the nurses I saw, very helpful, friendly, happy, but also very professional. I came to look forward to my treatment and trip to Kerang each week .
It was with a great deal of sadness that after a few months I have stopped going to Kerang Oncology, I can now have treatment at my local hospital. I feel they have a lot to live up too . Kerang Hospital and staff will have a special place in my memory for the rest of my Cancer journey.
