"Costing and bills"

About: St John of God Murdoch Hospital

(as a carer),

Firstly the day to day nursing staff are excellent and so is the food. The issue I have is the cost of staying in this hospital and the lack of full cost coverage despite having no excess gold private health.

It starts in emergency where some radiology isn't fully covered by insurance because I was classified as an outpatient apparently. It then goes on with pharmacy bills, physio bills, scanning bills, other support bills...seemingly a myriad of services I expected would be fully covered and are not. Sure, there is disclosure at admission I guess but the expectation of an average person with gold cover with no excess would be their bills will be paid in full...in my opinion anyway!

As I understand it, the simple fact is there is no such thing as full coverage and all sorts of billing follows you home from hospital. I really had to compare what I got versus the public health system, in an emergency anyway. Based on my experience it seems to me both are comparable but one will take a toll on my wallet and one won't.
