About: PathWest Kelmscott Collection Centre

(as a service user),

Taken a friend to get a blood test and I recall there were 5 people already waiting.

No staff present and only one person taking samples.

I recall it took around 20 minutes per person.

I'm an RN and trained phlebotomist, so I am a bit frustrated.

Based on my experience, we will go elsewhere next time.

This happened to me before when bringing my relative here for bloods early this year.

You'd think I would have learned.

I really appreciate you reaching out and sharing your experiences of our PathWest Kelmscott collection centre and apologise that our staffing levels resulted in extended wait times for yourself, your relative and all clients attending the centre.

We have acknowledged that our staffing levels have been impacted by the recent increase in respiratory virus transmission across the WA community, causing increased staff sick leave and a number of our locations staffed below the level we believe to be appropriate for delivering excellent care.

We are currently onboarding staff, specifically for Kelmscott, to address the recurrent wait time issues you have experienced. Additionally, having been newly appointed to this role, I am reviewing the staffing across all of our services and looking at ways to responsibly use our resources to reduce the impact on wait times for our clients during the next respiratory season in 2024.
