"Compliment"

About: Hedland Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Right from the get go, everything about my experience as a patient was positive.

I was seen by the triage nurse at first who listened to my concerns, assessed me and advised the next process. I was then seen by a DMO who assessed me for a possible infection I had. All of this happened in a timely manner.

During my consult with the DMO I mentioned a current medication I was recently started on for overactive thyroid, and asked whether or not that would make me more susceptible to infection (based on side effects discussed with my local GP). The advice I received from the DML was reassuring and explained well.

The DMO then progressed to look up previous diagnostic tests and then ordered more bloods to see if my current thyroid treatment was adequate. Prior to discharge from the ED, the DMO provided me with feedback that she handed over my care to the medical team and specifically asked they follow up my thyroid treatment regime alongside my presenting complaint (an infection).

I was then picked up from ED by a general ward nurse and was involved in the handover process with both the ED nurse and GW nurse. I was made to feel comfortable in both the ED and ward environment. The coordinator on the ward made herself known to me and I was always told - if you have any concerns please let us know. I felt safe.

I owe my morning shift nurse and DMO in ED, as well as the afternoon shift on the GW (my primary nurse, shift coordinator and PSAs) a huge thanks. Mainly for showing compassion and providing quality care which is aligned with WACHS values.

These nurses and doctors  are  visibly working at their absolute capacity. They need to know that their efforts don't go unnoticed.
