Recently I commenced a 6 week course of hyperbaric oxygen treatment for help with healing radiation ulcers caused by radiation treatment for cervical cancer. The hyperbaric treatment was 5 days a week for 6 weeks.
As I don't reside in Sydney, accommodation was provided for me just across the road from the hospital, organised by Linda, the wonderful customer service specialist I saw.
My first day was a little uneasy as is starting any new treatment. I felt the staff at the Hyperbaric unit were very kind and reassuring.
The entire process of decompressing, oxygen masks, the hyperbaric chamber was an amazing experience and I am so thankful to my treating specialists Dr Geetha from Newcastle Mater Hospital Radiation/Oncology and Dr Yvette from Sorella Womens Heath Newcastle Private Specialist Centre for managing to get me into the Hyperbaric treatment program- which as I'm told is very difficult due to the long waiting lists.
As my treatment progressed I became very comfortable with the process thanks to the specialised care provided to me by the entire team headed by Kate the Unit Manager. A special mention to Brian & Ewan who made my hyperbaric experience a relaxed enjoyable process.
Several weeks post treatment and I'm happy to say that I'm feeling so much better and looking forward to resuming a somewhat normal life after going through radiation and chemotherapy.
Thank you to everyone involved in my cancer journey.
