"Pregnancy & Birth"

About: Margaret River Hospital / Maternity Department

(as the patient),

I started the midwifery program at Margaret River Hospital at around 20 weeks of my pregnancy and was assigned Katie as my main midwife. Katie and all the other midwife’s I seen were so lovely and caring. I always felt comfortable at my appointments and the knowledge of the midwife’s was reassuring. My opinion was always heard and nothing was ever forced on me or made me feel like I had to do something that was not a part of my beliefs or birth plan. I was given a few different mobile numbers and Katie always got back to me when I texted her even on her days off.

Once I was finally in labour I was looked after really well, I felt safe and knew I was in the best care. The birthing suite was nice and homely and calming although the shower wasn’t hot enough and you couldn’t move the shower head. Also I found the bath tub was uncomfortable and not deep enough. The midwifes however tried to help with whatever pain management they had available. I was asking for an epidural although there was no one available to administer it and a different hospital didn’t have room for me so I had to push through with the help of my partner and the midwifes.

The support I got after the birth of my daughter was amazing. Katie did 3 home visits (we missed one) which is so helpful with a newborn! I am so grateful I got to be apart of the midwife program and have such wonderful support the whole way through my first pregnancy. Katie and her team went above and beyond for me and my baby and made everything as smooth as possible for us.
