"Medical file for specialist appointments"

About: Cowes Phillip Island Health Hub Wonthaggi Hospital / Integrated Care Centre (L.Rigby Centre) Wonthaggi Hospital / Medical Specialists

Recently I had an appointment at BCH at Cowes to see a gastro-enterologist and my file was sent to Cowes for a gastroenterologists information and reference.

Around 5 days later, I had an appointment with an oncologist at Wonthaggi's Rigby Centre, which had been rescheduled from 2 weeks earlier. When I arrived at the Rigby Centre, I discovered it was a new oncologist who had never seen me before and unfortunately my file had not been returned from Cowes from the appointment 5 days before, so the oncologist had little or no information about my medical condition or past history to guide them and direct my consultation, apart from a few odd test results and what I was able to tell them myself.

It was suggested that I put in a care opinion so this matter could be investigated and hopefully it won't happen again to myself or other patients.

Dear leopardpd37,

I am so sorry that you have had this experience. Exactly NOT what you should have experienced, and NOT what our protocols say should happen. I have discussed this with our leadership group, and they will work with their teams to ensure this doesn't happen to others. I am sincerely sorry that you encountered this inefficiency and poor communication. Not at all what I expect from our processes, and I can assure you that our teams will look to how we can do better in this space. Please accept my apologies,
