"20 week anatomy scan"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Medical Imaging

For our first pregnancy we were extremely excited for the anatomy scan and nervous with what might come out of it.

The sonographer took us through, didn’t explain the process to us nor obtained informed consent. I felt their bedside manner was poor. They didn’t talk us through any they were doing, and when we asked questions they answered in mumbled breaths.

I was extremely uncomfortable through my pelvis laying for the scan and there was no checking in, asking if I were okay throughout the imaging.

When I was asked to empty my bladder, they left the gel on my stomach and told me to go to the toilet. When I returned I couldn’t see the screen and I asked to see.

It was a rushed and horrible process that left me feeling anxious and uncared for!

I am sorry hear that you did not have a pleasant experience with your ultrasound and you left feeling uncared for. Dear aquilasb79

I wished to provide you an update on a change we have made in response to your feedback and the conversation we had with you.

We have now installed a monitor on a swivel arm, which duplicates the image from the sonographer's screen. This will allow consumers to more easily see the scan and be more involved in the presentation.
