"Fantastic RN and Dr in medical ward"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Medical Ward

(as a relative),

My parent had a really bad fall at home, hit their head and was confused, which resulted in their admission to hospital.

The care my parent received from  RN Kerry and  Dr Judith was exceptional.  My parent is in their 90s and RN Kerry and Dr Judith were kind, caring and professional in their care of my parent and explained things very well to myself and my family to keep us up to date with my parent's condition.  I could talk to them over the phone or in person and this was very reassuring. They really treated my parent as though they mattered and their feelings and treatment were important.

The only thing I would like to see improved is that elderly people, like my parent- should not have to move beds/rooms so frequently in my opinion. My parent was moved three times in three days.  I believe changing rooms so often added to their confused state. While I realise that this is sometimes necessary, I feel the elderly should not be moved as younger people are able to cope with changing rooms. Confused, elderly patients have much more difficulty  in my experience.

I was impressed with all the staff I came into contact with on that ward, they were friendly and helpful.

Good morning A-grateful-relative-and-fellow-clinician,

Thank you for your feedback it was certainly lovely to hear that you and your parent had a lovely experience while on medical ward.

I will certainly pass on your compliment to Kerry, Dr Judith and the medical ward team.

I appreciate your comments around bed moves and it is something from a ward perspective we try to avoid.

Research has shown that bed moves only confuse our elderly patients so we really do everything to prevent it. Most of the time bed moves only occur due to infection requiring single room or escalation of care needing closer visibility and our heart monitors that are only active in certain rooms. We have made a lot of improvement in this area over the last few months but it seems we still have some work to do.

Once again I thank you for your feedback.

Kind Regards

Nicky Duncan
