"Getting yelled out by a nurse"

About: Narrogin Health Service / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I was using a wheelchair as I have been everyday since I’ve been admitted in Narrogin hospital as I’ve been sick for a few months and I’ve been in other hospitals on and off but now I’m in Narrogin.

Recently, I was going outside in the wheelchair and next minute I heard my name getting called out in a seemingly angry manner and it was a nurse who stopped me right infront of the emergency department where I felt everyone could see and hear what they were yelling at me about. I recall the nurse said that I don’t need to be in that wheelchair so why am I in it, they spoke to my physio and they cleared me so I don’t need to be in it. I said I do as I feel safer in it as I get dizzy spells and feel fainting all the time due to my illness. And then the nurse went on saying that I don’t need to be here they can discharge me so get out of the chair.

I am so so angry and sad as I’ve been through a lot this year I am suffering from depression but now I feel this nurse has made it worse. I felt so embarrassed it’s just not fair to be treated this way.

Dear serpensjw87

Thank you for sharing your concerns about the treatment you received from a nurse at the Narrogin Health Service. From what you describe it was a very unpleasant experience and I am sorry you were left feeling sad and embarrassed. I appreciate you taking the time to take my phone call today to offer my sincere apologies for the distress this interaction caused. The actions of the nurse are not reflective of our values, however, I was pleased to learn that overall, your experience with the Narrogin Health Service was a positive one.

I hope you are recovering well.
