"R U OK? Not at the hospital"

Have you ever had a bad day, week, month year or run? I know I have…but when I am seeking assistance at these low times it requires trust. Once trust is broken, I find it is increasingly difficult to continue to see hope and reconnect with services that should be assisting not impacting further negativity. Once at my lowest, I know the last thing I need is for a medical service to fail on multiple levels. Sometimes lives are chaotic and stress kills.

Within the walls of a hospital I believe I should feel safe and supported. Within the walls of Hedland Health Campus I did not and do not. However I will and have to return.

There are multiple levels of health charter provision and codes of conduct that, in my opinion, have been shattered and staff who I feel should - but sadly never will be reprimanded for their seemingly unprofessional behaviour.

But my focus is right now on one particular moment of a security guard’s manner. I recall they said I was crazy, which is not only incorrect but also shows lack of judgement and compassion. The job description of security is to assist when called in on mental health situations to deescalate and a comment of such will not have this affect. I believe this individual has no medical licence and zero professional standing to make any diagnosis especially one that does not actually exist within the DSM-5.

My question is when will those in senior positions act and insist on change where they send clear messages to their staff to act within the code of conduct. I also seek a written apology. Sadly what I seek and what happens will not match and I feel neither will occur…but throwing one starfish back from shore helps that star fish…

Thank you for providing your feedback. I was concerned to read that you feel that the services at the Hedland Health Campus are not making you feel safe and supported, and that you are finding it difficult to maintain a sense of hope.

I note the focus of your feedback was a security guards’ manner and comments made. I am disappointed to hear this and will ensure to work closely with the company that is a contracted service to encourage their staff to adopt the organisations values of compassion, integrity and community that WACHS adheres to.

I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that all our staff receive frequent communications outlining the organisations values and the expectation and that they demonstrate behaviours aligned to these values.

Thank you again for raising these concerns and I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for your experience at Hedland Health Campus.
