"closing of wound care clinic"

About: Dongara Eneabba Mingenew Health Service / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

2yrs ago Dongara Health Centre opened a new Wound Clinic to the benefit of the towns people and the wider community. I believe it has had to close because of lack of funding. We are now required to go through A&E which if you are required to go to each day, I am one of those very angry people as we can wait up till 4hrs to see a Nurse in my experience.

At least the Wound Clinic gave you a time of day when you could attend. I believe the nurses have a hard enough time looking after everyone who pass through A&E. Please give them funding, I feel life is hard enough without having to sit for hours waiting to been seen. Thank you for your co operation in this matter .(very angry patient)

Dear pegasusqs69

Thank you for reaching out to us and raising your concerns on Care Opinion.

I appreciate the closure of the wound clinic at Dongara is a frustration and inconvenience for the community, I would like to apologise that at this time we have been unable to maintain this service. Unfortunately, with ongoing workforce challenges that most health providers are facing it has not been possible to roster the additional support required to provide this service independently of the Emergency Department.

I travelled to Dongara last week and discussed options to ensure those patients requiring wound care receive the appropriate clinical care and I hope the proposed changes will improve the service and experience you receive. I would be very happy to speak with you to share these solutions and to fully understand your challenges in obtaining the follow up treatment you require. My name is Di Franklin, I am the Operations Manager Midwest Murchison. You can reach me on 9956 8719, or if you prefer email Di.Franklin@health.wa.gov.au and your contact would be very welcome.

Regards

Di Franklin
