I'm a transman who recently gave birth at KEMH. I went through the MGP and had the most supportive team of midwives you could imagine. My main midwife Maddi exceeded my expectations in everyway and made every effort to ensure I was comfortable while in her care. The staff I saw across KEMH were all incredibly supportive and open minded. I was made feel supported, heard, and I can not fault my care at all.
I would say that I believe the hospital itself could make some changes to be more inclusive. Specifically, in many areas there are only female patient bathrooms and most information/pamphlets etc refer only to women/mothers/females. Minor changes to make the language more inclusive could be made, for example patient bathrooms vs visitors bathrooms rather than women vs mens. Information booklets could say birth parent, patient, parent etc.
I would highly recommend using the MGP model of care and although there are still ways in which I believe KEMH could be more inclusive, the midwives and doctors I saw do an outstanding job.
