"Hedland Health Campus"

About: Hedland Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Good Afternoon

Recently I went to the ER Department with breathing issues. I was seen by the doctor I told them what my problem was and they sent me for an xray. After the dr looked at my xray I recall they said nothing was wrong and that it was all in my head and sent me away with diazepam.

The next day i had surgery spoke with the anethatist, he did some tests and had said that i have early stages of emphysema and to go and see my GP. I feel this ER Dr did not do enough to look into why this was occurring. In my opinion they should not be practising as a Dr. I feel something needs to be done. How many other patience have seemingly been sent away without looking into their issue or concerns for their health. I feel we put our trust into Drs that apparently can't do their job properly.

Dear puppiszn47,

Thankyou for taking the time to share your concern about services you received at the Hedland Health Campus Emergency Department. The safety and quality of the health services that we provide to the community are our top priority, and we apologise that the service you received on this occasion did not meet your expectations.

I can commit to raising this concern with our Senior Medical Officer who will undertake a review and discuss with the relevant medical staff. This is to reinforce the importance of listening to our patients and to complete full and through assessments. I can also confirm that we undertake a rigorous credentialing process with all of our medical staff to ensure that they have the required training and skills to work in the many and varied roles across the health service, including the Emergency Department.

It is heartening to know that you did receive follow up care from our Anaesthetist in the theatre team as well as your GP, and obtained further medical advice.

If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me on 08 9174 1000.

Yours sincerely,

Deryck Lykke
