"No communication about patient transfer"

About: Albany Health Campus

(as a relative),

My parent was admitted to hospital in Albany and it was decided that they were to be sent to a metropolitan hospital by RFDS.

I got a phone call from my parent's partner the next morning, telling me that they were due to be flown to Perth. I called Albany Hospital to get further information and was told that my parent had been flown up the previous evening. No communication about the flight and possible procedure was given to me or my parent's partner until I phoned Albany Hospital.

Hi wezenwh83,

Thank you for taking the time to submit this feedback about your experience at Albany Health Campus.

I am very sorry that you feel you experienced an absence of communication regarding your parent’s transfer to another hospital. We have processes in place to ensure that the next of kin are informed of any patient transfer events. I would like to review the circumstances around your parent’s transfer to see what we could have done better in this instance. In order to do that I would appreciate it if you could reach out to me at Ashley.Pannett@health.wa.gov.au.

Regards,
