(as a parent/guardian),

Motorbike rider bought in by ambulance after accident.  I felt they were left neglected by ED staff.  Still waiting, it seemed there was no staff care or respect for patient.  Been told we have to wait 8 hours for injuries to be treated, already been 4 hours. Only treatment done by ambos, I felt no care from Fiona Stanley staff. I felt no compassion.

Dear sierrayp88,

I am sorry to read about the long wait you experienced with the person who had a motorbike accident, and that you feel there was no care or compassion shown to you by staff in the Emergency Department (ED).

All patients who present to the ED are triaged according to clinical risk and seen in order of urgency and the department has Wait Room nurses, rostered on 24 hours, who constantly monitor patients in the waiting room and escalate if anyone who is waiting experiences a deterioration in their condition.

Having said that – a wait of 8 hours is unacceptable. I sincerely apologise for this long wait, and I want to assure you we are working on reducing long wait times in the ED by implementing a variety of strategies.

I have shared your feedback with ED staff for their awareness. I hope your companion received the treatment they required and are on their way to recovery now.
