I have been a patient for nearly three years with the Burns unit. I’m not sure on exact numbers but it is something like this, 13 major fasciotomies each with separate surgery for skin grafts. One emergency surgery due to skin break down on my left shin. That’s a lot of surgeries and in turn so much care. These words don’t reflect what has gone into my care at the burn’s unit. Each of the fasciotomies required intensive care and many, many dressing appointments. I always had a wait but this was due to the volume of patient’s and lack of staff within the burn’s unit.
I’m not sure how to say thank you to all the staff at the burn’s unit. Initially I wanted to mentioned all the beautiful people by name who have cared for and looked after me when I felt there was really nowhere else for me to go and my pain could not be measured, but here are too many. From the Surgeons, Nurses, Reception, Cleaners absolutely everybody I've seen performs to a world class standard for the patients who go through there. As a Hospital I feel you should be so proud of the Burns department.
I continue to be a patient and indeed even though I am recovering from recent surgery I may need more surgery I know I am in probably the best Burns unit in the world based on my experience. Thank you Burns Unit I really don’t know how to thank you for the care I have received.
