"Rude switchboard operator"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus

(as the patient),

Recently, I attended the Kalgoorlie Health Campus as directed by my GP due to ringing in my ears and pressure in my head. I was seen by ED staff, taken for a CT scan. After a discussion with staff about how long the results would take I decided to go home due to the noise of the ED Department being unbearable to my head. I was to return in a couple of hours for my results.

After a couple of hours I called to speak to someone to see if my results were in, I called through to the main hospital switchboard and was transferred through to a nurse in ED, my results weren't in so I said I would call back in a little bit.

After approx another hour I called again and a different staff member answered. I asked to be put through to someone in ED. This staff member abruptly told me they couldn't do that, to which I told them I called earlier and had already spoken to someone. This staff member told me the previous staff member should not have done that. They told me once again they couldn't do what I asked and told me I would have to come in and then hung up on me.

I called again and the same staff member answered, that is when I explained my situation a bit more, gave them my name and they still refused to transfer me through, hanging up on me a second time.

I called again, stating my identity once again and telling them to please not hang up on me and requested to be transferred. I feel I was spoken to rudely and abruptly once again and even gave their opinion on the fact I should not have left the hospital in the first place.

Eventually I was able to find out my results were in and I went straight back into ED.

I can not fault the doctors and the nurses that treated me that day, however I believe the switchboard operator brought their personal opinions into play with our interaction to which I was extremely distressed about. I believe a non clinical staff member should not be giving their opinion on medical issues and patients and should not be bringing their personal views of someone they know of into the work place.

Thanks for your time!
