"Excellent care"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

I recently spent a week in ward 2D (HN) with my son who is an adult and totally disabled with cerebral palsy and blind. He had a collapsed lung and a drain put into his side. It was all totally new to him as he has never been in hospital before. The nurses were amazing. Both with my son and myself. They were professional but always cheerful making our time in hospital so much easier to cope with. The doctors that worked with us during this week explained everything fully and made sure I understood everything before they went ahead with any procedure.

I did come across 2 people that were not necessarily listening to what I had to say as a mother but the other doctors and nurses were there to follow up with what was the better outcome for my son. ( which is what it’s all about )

I believe the nurses we saw should be commended for keeping up their happy and carefree nature when they are dealing with sometimes difficult situations and the work they do is tiring and in my experience, they still do it with a smile on their face and happiness in their voice. They are truly the back bone of this ward and were greatly appreciated during our stay.

As I stayed at the hospital with my son I got to see them throughout their day and I was very impressed with the handover of nurses and how easily they were able to change over from one shift to the next without any problems. Like a well oiled machine. As they say. I believe the hospital board should be very proud of this group of nurses as they are the best I have seen. Thank you to all involved.
